Ultimate Fight Night saw Lightweights take the Main Event, as Joe Stevenson squared off against Melvin Guillard.

In a night filled with Lightweights, Joe Stevenson forced Melvin Guillard to tap out in less than 30 seconds in the first round of the UFC's Ultimate Fight Night on Thursday. Stevenson started out the match with a hit that caught Guillard by surprise, which led to a takedown. Guillard tried to get to his feet, but Stevenson caught him in a guillotine chokehold, ending the match in less than 30 seconds. The win propels Stevenson further into contention into a deep Lightweight division.

Kenny Florian vs. Dokonjonosuke Mishima- Redemption for Florian

Prior to that, Kenny Florian defeated Dokonjonosuke Mishima by tap out, via rear-naked choke, in the third round. It was a back-and-forth battle early on for Florian and Mishima, but in the end, “KenFlo” came out on top. Florian is coming off of a Lightweight title loss against Sean Sherk, at UFC 64, last October. A win also helps Florian get back into contention.

With convincing victories tonight, don’t be surprised to see both Florian and Stevenson facing each other in the near future. Both are very good fighters and are in contention to face Sherk for the Lightweight Championship. A match between Florian and Stevenson would surely excite the Lightweight fans.
