The top five stars in the Ultimate Fighting Championship

1. Chuck Liddell- UFC Light Heavyweight Champion

After a third round knockout of Tito Ortiz at UFC 66 in December, “The Iceman” prepares for some more competition to come his way. Liddell has knocked out everybody that has come into his crosshairs.

Since defeating Randy Couture two years ago to win the Light Heavyweight title, Liddell has defeated Jeremy Horn, Couture, Renato Sobral and Tito Ortiz. Liddell is currently the longest serving title holder in the UFC.

Reports from Sherdog suggest that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is the next likely competitor to try and take the Light Heavyweight title from Liddell. Jackson was the last fighter to defeat Liddell and even did so by TKO. The fight could happen this summer if the reports are true.

2. Georges St. Pierre- UFC Welterweight Champion

“Rush,” as he is so properly nicknamed, defeated the only man to ever beat him in his career last November at UFC 65, Matt Hughes. Now the 24-year-old is on top of the world and prepares for his match against Ultimate Fighter season four winner Matt Serra at UFC 69 in a few weeks.

St. Pierre is one of the hottest stars in the UFC and at the ‘top of the mountain’ in the Welterweight Division. Nobody has defeated St. Pierre and there is not a lot of depth in the Welterweight Division.

If he defeats Serra, expect either a rematch with Hughes, or a match against Ultimate Fighter Season one winner Diego Sanchez.

3. Anderson Silva- UFC Middleweight Champion

The Brazilian striker is already 3-0 in the UFC. He is the most feared fighter in the Middleweight division. “Spider” has defeated Chris Leben, Rich Franklin and Travis Lutter. Silva made work of Leben just barely after a minute and took care of Franklin in less than three minutes.

The Middleweight Division has the most depth in the UFC with fighters like Franklin and Leben, Mike Swick, Kendall Grove, Thales Leites and Nate Marquardt. Any one of these fighters could be a contenders and have an opportunity to take the title.

According to a report from MMA Weekly, Marquardt is Silva’s next challenger and the fight could happen at UFC 72 in July.

4. Randy Couture- UFC Heavyweight Champion

“Captain America” is back and in the division where he could make the most noise. After defeating Tim Sylvia for the Heavyweight title.

Most people think that Mirko Cro-Crop is his next opponent.

5. Rich Franklin

Franklin is still one of the best Middleweight fighters in the UFC, right now. Franklin is coming off a victory against Jason MacDonald and is expected to keep fighting his way back to the top if the UFC Middleweight Division.
