It’s title vs. title at UFC 75, when UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson takes on Pride Middleweight (Light Heavyweight) Champion Dan Henderson.
Jackson has been a very popular fighter in the UFC ever since he defeated Chuck Liddell at UFC 71, to win the Light Heavyweight title. ‘Rampage’ is 2-0 in the UFC and has an overall MMA record of 27-6.
For Henderson, this is his first time in the UFC Octagon in almost 10 years. ‘Hendo’ fought twice at UFC 17. He defeated Allan Goes and Carlos Newton at the event.
Henderson was a popular fighter at Pride. He held multiple titles, the Welterweight (UFC Middleweight) and Middleweight (UFC Light Heavyweight) titles. He’s the first fighter in history to hold two different belts simultaneously.
‘Hendo’ has fought a who’s-who of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters, including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Ricardo Arona, Murilo Bustamante, Renzo Gracie, Renato Sobral, Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva. He’s 22-5 in MMA.
Henderson picked up his first win of the year against Wanderlei Silva at Pride 33, knocking out the ‘Axe Murderer.’ ‘Hendo’ won the Pride Middleweight belt at that fight.
Also on the card at UFC 75, Michael Bisping fights Matt Hamill. Both fighters were teammates on the third season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ (TUF).
Bisping was the winner for the third season and is 3-0 in the UFC. His last win came against Elvis Sinosic at UFC 70, when Bisping knocked out Sinosic in the second round.
Hamill is 3-0, not only in the UFC, but in his career. He’s defeated Jesse Forbes, Seth Petruzelli and Rex Holman.
Also on the card, it’s a battle of international, heavyweight strikers as Mirko Cro Cop returns to the Octagon for the first time since losing to Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70, where he will face Cheick Kongo.
For Cro Cop, it’s an opportunity to get back in the UFC Heavyweight title hunt. His first round loss to Gonzaga shocked many fight fans, not that he lost, but how he lost. Cro Cop was knocked out, via a kick to the head. It’s ironic because Cro Cop is famous for his head kick knockouts.
Kongo has become a new heavyweight fighter that has entered the spotlight in the UFC. Kongo is 3-1 in the UFC. He won a decision against Assuerio Silva.
UFC 75 will take place Saturday, September 8 at the O2 Arena in London. For North American viewers it will be broadcast on a Tape Delay on Spike TV at 9 pm et. Setanta Sports will carry the broadcast live.
