It's a preview of UFC 69 which takes place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Saturday April 7.
On Saturday April 7, the UFC invades the Toyota Center in Houston. It only seems right that the UFC features three Texas-sized bouts.
New Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre defends his title for the first time since his victory over Matt Hughes, last November. St. Pierre puts his title on the line against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season four winner Matt “The Terror” Serra.
Serra was immediately propelled to the #1 contender spot after defeating by split decision over Chris Lytle at the season four finale last November. The fight was close and could have gone either way.
Serra knows that this is his toughest challenge yet, so he said to UFC.com.
“Right now he’s the number one guy, the champ, and I predict a very tough fight, but I’m gonna be up for the challenge,” Serra told UFC.com.
For St. Pierre, this is his first fight back after knocking out Matt Hughes in the second round of the Welterweight Championship bout at UFC 65. St. Pierre avenged an earlier loss against Hughes.
With the exception of that, St. Pierre has won all of his fights during his career in the UFC. At age 25, St. Pierre has a long career ahead of him.
This might be the best match of UFC 69. Two TUF season one fighters going head-to-head. Both fighters have one loss between them and both are serious contenders in the Welterweight Division.
Sanchez, a season one TUF winner, has had a lot of success in the UFC. He will go for his 20th straight victory against Koscheck. An amazing feat by itself. By the way he’s also undefeated. Sanchez’s last victory came at a Fight Night in December over Joe Riggs.
For Koscheck, things have looked good for him, since his experience on season one of TUF. Since then he has become a regular fighter at many Fight Night events. Koscheck’s last victory also came at the Fight Night in December over Jeff Joslin.
There are so many great matches to choose from, this one looked like the best. Swick returns to the Octagon after his decision victory over David Loiseau last September.
Swick, another season one TUF vet, has been looking for his shot at Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva since October.
For Okami, a young star from Japan, it’s a chance for him to make a name for himself in the Middleweight division.
