Strikeforce Fighter Cung Le

Former Middleweight Champion that Fans Either Love or Love to Hate

Nov 9, 2009 Eric Streler

Cung Le is an undefeated MMA fighter who defeated Frank Shamrock for the Strikeforce middleweight belt. Cung Le vs. Frank Shamrock ended with a broken arm for Shamrock.

Cung Le has never lost a fight in his career. He is a kickboxer that loves to fight and he loves to act. He is a very skilled MMA fighter who was on top of the middleweight division in Strikeforce before stepping down to focus on his acting. As fast as he burst onto the Strikeforce scene with six straight wins and a middleweight championship belt, he stepped down.

Cung Le Vs. Frank Shamrock

Cung Le won his first five fights in Strikeforce. All five fights ended either by TKO or a KO. This set Le up for Strikeforce: Cung Le vs. Frank Shamrock, a battle against MMA veteran Frank Shamrock for the Strikeforce middleweight title. Many people thought that Le was in over his head and would be defeated by Shamrock. Boy were they wrong. In the third round, Le broke Shamrock's arm during a series of devestating kicks. He was now the Strikeforce middleweight champion and seen by many as one of the best middleweight fighters in the world.

Cung Le Movies

Cung Le is also a very good actor. After defeating Shamrock for the Strikeforce middleweight title, Le eventually vacated the belt to continue pursuing his acting career. He never defended the title. Le is currently working on a movie in which he is co-starring in: Tekken. He also appeared in two 2009 movies: Pandorum and Fighting.

Le loves to act and it probably pays him more than his fighting career so it is hard to blame him for his decision. Sure fans would love to see him defending his title, but ultimately he has to do what makes the most sense for him in his life.

Cung Le's Next Fight

Cung Le is now scheduled for another fight with Strikeforce. After it appeared he may not fight until 2010, which was still unknown, he now has a fight scheduled on December 19, 2009. Le will fight at Strikeforce: Evolution against a heavy hitting opponent, Scott Smith.

It will be interesting to see Le fight because his focus hasn't been fully on training. He has spent a lot of time filiming movies and this has drastically cut into his preparation time for this fight. For the fans sake, let's hope that Le will be in fighting shape and able to fight with the precision and heart he is known for.

Cung Le is 37 years old and therefore his days in fighting seem to be numbered. Throughout his lengthy career, he has only fought in 17 professional fights. That shows that he has never really put fighting as his top priority. Sure he really enjoys it and is very good at it, but he just hasn't ever made it his entire life. Whether someone sees that as good or bad, no one can fault him for making his own decisions. It would have been interesting to see what type of fighter he would have been if he had thirty to forty professional fights under his belt and had taken fighting more seriously. Nonetheless, Le's fighting career is not over and there's no reason to believe that he won't have the opportunity to reclaim his middleweight title should he defeat Scott Smith on December 19.
