Shamrock vs. Diaz Results

Strikeforce's April 11th event brings the fight back to Showtime.

A total of three KO's, four TKO's, two submissions & one judge's decision, put together Strikeforce's first card for the year. See inside for the complete fight result

In front of a crowd of 15,211, Nate Diaz defeated Frank Shamrock and Gilbert Melendez was crowned as the new interim Lightheavy weight champion after defeating Rodrigo Damm in 2:02 in the second round. In a fight that was off hours before the show started due to not making weight, Christine “Cyborg” Santos came in and got the win.

The Main Card - Results

Shamrock vs. Diaz

Winner: Nate Diaz – TKO

Referee: “Big” John McCarthy

Dominating Frank Shamrock for the complete first and second rounds. Nick Diaz picked Frank Shamrock apart with blows to the face and body, saucing leg kicks and easy take-downs, where he was able to take side control and full mount with little effort. The first round went unanimously to Nate Diaz 10-9.

The second round mirrors the first. Nate Diaz gives a little trash talk, while staying on the attack. As Frank Shamrock back away, Nate keeps the pressure on, following and landing various jabs. With the fight on the cage, Diaz gets a left hook in and a right to the body that collapses Shamrock which enables Nick to get down and land a vicious ground and pound. Ref steps in and calls an end to the fight.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Rodrigo Damm (Interim Lightheavy weight title fight)

Winner: Gilbert Melendez - TKO

Referee: Josh Rosenthal

Fight is on the ground after Damm is tripped by Melendez after catching a kick. The fight stays down for the round with Melendez controlling the action. Damm tries for an arm attempt with no luck, Melendez continues dropping blows to the face and body of Damm. Melendez works from a half guard for the remainder of the first round. Judges call it Melendez 10-9.

Bell rings, Melendez tries for a take down that is defended by Damm. The two tangle, Melendez gets back and throws a right that drops Damm; Melendez is on top and drops down a few more blows. Damm is out. Melendez is the new Strikeforce Interim Light Heavyweight Champion.

Christine “Cyborg” Santos vs. Hitomi Akano

Winner: Christine Santos – TKO

Referee: Josh Rosenthal

Santos comes out in typical Chute Boxe fashion, fast and aggressive. With a whirlwind of punches going around, Akano hangs on. Santos takes her down hard, a failed submission attempt from Akano, brings the fighters back to their feet. Santos takes Akano down again. Santos controls the remainder of the round. Judges: 10-9, Santos.

Santos comes back out aggressive and defends a take down attempt from Akano. Akano gets a left in; Santos comes back with a one-two. The fight is down, Akano has full guard. Santos work from the guard and gains side control, and dominates the rest if the round. 10-9 Santos

Hanging in, Akano gets a body kick, followed by a huge right. Akano is dazed. Santos goes in for the kill, dropping bombs on Akano. Ref stoppage.

Brett Rogers vs. Ron Humphrey

Winner: Brett Rogers - TKO

Referee: Herb Dean

Humphrey comes in throwing jabs, and defends a takedown attempt from Rogers. Humphreys attempts a takedown of his down that is defended by Rogers. Rogers throws an upper cut, the two are against the fence throwing blows. Rogers has a slip, he get’s up and throws a right that Humphrey eats. Knees and punches are thrown by Rogers that connect to Humphrey. Rogers losses a point for pulling the hair of Humphreys after being warned three times by ref Herb Dean. Draw 9-9

Dominating the second round Humphrey is peppered up with knees from the clinch, then a series of upper cuts. Clinch again, Rogers blast away with more knees, Humphrey goes down. Herb steps in. Rogers takes the win.

Benji Radach vs. Scott Smith

Winner: Scott Smith - KO

Referee: Herb Dean

Smith eats a right from Radach as the fight starts. Radach catches a kick from Smith. Radach throws a right, Smith dodges and throws his own, connects and shakes Radach. Another right puts Radach to the mat. On his feet Radach comes back and throws one at Smith, sending Smith to the ground, Radach gets a nice take down and controls action from the ground for the remainder of the first. 10-9 Radach

Smith connects first with a jab. The two end up on the cage, Smith attempts take downs and gives up with no success. In the center Radach has thrown a left that stuns Smith and right that puts him down. On his feet, Radach catches Smith in a Guillotine; Smith takes it to the floor. Radach looses his hold. Herb stand the fighter after no actions is taking place on the ground. Radach controls the remainder of the round. 1 x judges 10-9 Radach, 2 x judges 10-8 Radach

A bloody Smith comes in throwing, Radach throws Smith. Smith is back and catches Radach with a right. Radach backs up hurt, Smith comes in and eats a huge right. Smith steps back up and lands a nice right, Radach is out. Smith wins via KO

Winner: Luke Rockhold – Submission (Rear-naked choke)

Eric Lawson vs. Waylon Kendall

Winner: Eric Lawson - TKO

Raul Castillo vs. Brandon Michaels

Winner: Raul Castillo - Submission (Rear-naked choke)

James Terry vs. Zak Bucia

Winner: James Terry – Unanimous decision

Jeremy Tavares vs. Shingo Kohara

Winner: Shingo Kohara - KO
