Fedor-Lindland PreviewA battle of #1's
After months of hype, it's finally on between Lindland and Fedor.
On Saturday night, two of the toughest Mixed Martial Arts fighters will square off against each other in what has been one of the most hyped bouts in MMA. Fedor Emilianenko and Matt Lindland will face off in a battle of the No. 1’s in their respective divisions at BodogFight: A Clash of Nations in St. Petersburg, Russia. Lindland (no.-1 ranked Middleweight in the world) takes a giant leap to heavyweight to face the top ranked fighter in the division, Emilianenko. Fedor is without a doubt one of the most dominating heavyweights in MMA today. Tale of the Tape Fedor comes into this match weighing around 230 lbs. and is six feet tall. The Russian has lost only once in his MMA career. Fedor has a winning streak that has lasted almost seven years. His last victory came against Mark Hunt at Pride Shockwave 2006, last New Year’s Eve. Although the same height, Lindland will weigh a lot less than Fedor. According to the MMA Weekly web site, Lindland will weigh 20 lbs. less than Fedor. “The Law” has fought a who’s who of MMA fighters; including Pat Miletich, Phil Baroni, Quinton Jackson and most recently Carlos Newton. Lindland defeated the fellow IFL Coach, Newton, at an IFL Event in February. Lindland is older than Fedor and has more experience. What Lindland must do? Lindland has his work ahead of him, the weight deficit with Fedor will be a challenge for “The Law.” In order to win, Lindland must use his wrestling to try and put this fight on the ground. If it gets on the ground, Lindland needs to make sure he’s on top. Once Lindland establishes top position, he must do whatever it takes to keep Fedor down. What Fedor must do? You don’t become the best heavyweight in the world without being well-rounded fighter. Fedor is devastating, it doesn’t matter if he does it standing, or if it’s on the ground. He can throw a punch and take down an opponent in the blink of an eye. Fedor keeps his opponents down long enough to wear them down and eventually force them into submission. This may be Lindland’s greatest challenge, yet. Fedor never loses. The Russian may very well end up being one of the greatest heavyweights to ever grace a MMA ring. The hype about BodogFight Bodog has put a lot of effort into hyping up this showdown between Lindland and Fedor. It’s their biggest fight of the year. This is the kind of bout that could get Calvin Ayre’s new fight organization on the map. The hype began in February when Bodog began airing taped shows of fights from St. Petersburg, leading up to the Clash of the Nations Pay-Per-View. After the Saturday night PPV event, BodogFight will begin airing new episodes from Costa Rica. Fight Predictions As amazing of a wrestler as Lindland is, Fedor is too much to handle. Fedor has the best shot of winning, but don’t count Lindland. This fight won’t go the distance, expect a submission because nobody’s getting knocked out. For more information go to Bodog Fight
